What makes these medical admissions a bit more complicated is the fact that each medical school has its own specific criteria of admission. While some medical schools allow elimination of certain subjects, others emphasize on these courses. However, amidst this variation, some basic courses and examinations are considered mandatory by most medical colleges.

The initial screening of aspirants is done through a computerized evaluation process. This ensures that basic requirements like courses, MCAT, GPA scores meet the minimum standard of medical colleges. After this initial screening the admission procedures of different colleges mainly evaluate the candidate's ability to undertake and complete the course. Admission processes of different medical schools also test the skill of aspiring students in science and art simultaneously.

Generally, a med school admission requirement necessitates the completion of a minimum 1 year coursework. This coursework should include general biology, physics, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, calculus and English. Most of medical colleges prefer GPA above 3.5 but they can consider GPA below 3.5 if you have studied in a famous school. 3.3 GPA is considered a cutoff mark.

Your MCAT scores tell about your mental aptitude. The general subjects of MCAT are physical sciences, biological sciences, verbal and writing techniques. MCAT scores can be improved by attending MCAT preparation courses. Many institutions are offering such MCAT prep course through classroom or through online. On an average 70-80% of students seeking admission in medical colleges join these prep courses.

Some medical colleges also demand recommendation letters issued by your current faculty head. These recommendation letters reflect your performance during the activities listed in your application. Your performance in extra-curricular activities also increases your chances to get admission in medical college of your choice. The importance of other aspects varies by school.

Top medical schools like Harvard University, Washington University, Duke University California University of San Francisco, etc. have more strict admission procedures. Each of these medical colleges adopts its own standard to evaluate your capability to become doctor. By visiting counseling center of these colleges personally or by going though their website, you can become aware of the specific admission criteria.

Students having even low GPA and MCAT score can get admission in international medical colleges. However, the study cost will be a little more than those of US medical colleges. In any case, medical school requirements of international universities are much simpler than those of other medical colleges. This can help many more students to realize their dream of becoming a physician.
